Welcome to the Spinal Injuries Association

At the Spinal Injuries Association, we believe in rebuilding lives, promoting independence and preventing injuries. As Queensland’s peak body for people with a spinal cord injury, including people with the late effects of polio, and people with Transverse Myelitis, we provide a range of high-quality services that empower our members and clients either in their homes, at the workplace or in the community. Sea of red showed support for scheme that will empower Queenslanders who have a disability

Brisbane’s South Bank and CBD precincts were a sea of red for the Make It Real 2012 National Disability Insurance Scheme Rally on 30 April. The Spinal Injuries Association was delighted to take part in the 2,000-strong march, calling for both sides of Government to commit to a NDIS and give a sufficient outline of how it will be rolled out. View more photos from the event; or read more about why we support a NDIS and National Injury Insurance Scheme (NIIS).

nib foundation to support life changing workshop

We’re pleased to announce the support of nib foundation for our Discovering the Power in Me workshops in 2012. Discovering the Power in Me is a unique workshop in that it specifically focuses on the emotional and mental ramifications of a spinal cord injury. The two-day workshop was developed by the Pacific Institute in Vancouver and is delivered in Queensland by the Spinal Injuries Association’s Peer Support Team, each member of which has a spinal cord injury and is leading a positive, fulfilling life in the community. The content of the Discovering the Power in Me workshop is based on applied cognitive psychology, and offers practical tools and techniques that participants can easily understand and apply to their own lives. It lays a strong foundation for growth, change, hope, self-worth and inner peace and its resources can be referred to every day. Funding from nib foundation will enable us to continue delivering the workshops for 12 months, at no cost to participants to ensure that more people throughout Queensland can experience its life-changing effects.
