Welcome to the Spinal Injuries Association
2010 marks an enormous milestone for the Spinal Injuries Association as we celebrate 50 years of working hard to give people a voice – to ensure people with a spinal cord injury have the opportunity to be heard by all sectors of the community with the aim of achieving equity, independence and inclusiveness.
At the Spinal Injuries Association, we believe in rebuilding lives, promoting independence and preventing injuries. As Queensland’s peak body for people with a spinal cord injury, and for people with the late effects of polio, we provide a range of high quality services that empower our members and clients either in their homes, at the workplace or in the community.

The Association is proud to be a Quality Assured, not-for-profit, membership-based organisation, representing thousands of members and clients around the state. Our offices are located in Brisbane and Townsville. Read more about us …
Wallaby visits Spinal Injuries Unit
Wallaby flyhalf Quade Cooper recently visited the Spinal Injuries Unit at the Princess Alexandra Hospital with Spinal Injuries Association ambassador, Tim Horan. Although only a quick visit, Cooper made some special connections with patients in the unit, especially Pita Tago.
Cooper’s try salute after evading three defenders for a clutch score against Ireland in the game at Suncorp Stadium last week, was a promise made from the visit. “It was the sign of the letter ‘S’ for the spinal ward,” Cooper said. “I promised Pita I’d do one for them if I scored.”
Workplace injury prevention in demand
The Spinal Injuries Association’s SEAT at WORK program is all about sharing injury prevention messages and raising disability awareness – from the boardroom to the work site. In recent weeks, presenters Robert and Paul have spoken to 120 people across a variety of industries.
NQX Freight System Australia invited SEAT at WORK to present at their operational conference in June. As a provider of road transport solutions for freight moving between Queensland, the Northern Territory and the rest of Australia, the Spinal Injuries Association commends NQX for having a strong focus on safety.
July brought another intake of Energex apprentices and another opportunity for Robert and Paul to crack some jokes as well as communicate some serious safety messages. The Spinal Injuries Association would like to thank Energex for their continued support and their commitment to safety.
Bilfinger Berger Services (Australia) create, operate and maintain vital public and industrial infrastructure, and were a great SEAT at WORK audience! Robert and Paul spoke to the guys on the front line of the company who work either at the top of power poles, with heavy machinery or at the bottom of a pit.
