The Realistic RACE

Inclusion isn’t just good practice – it’s good business. The Realistic RACE is a hands-on, team-based workshop designed to build empathy, spark conversation and give your team a fresh perspective on accessibility.

Inspired by The Amazing Race and led by people with lived experience of disability, participants work together to complete real-world challenges using mobility aids like wheelchairs, walkers, blindfolds and more.

It’s a fun, eye-opening way to strengthen teamwork, improve customer service and learn practical insights that help create more inclusive workplaces, services and communities.

What is the Realistic RACE?

The Realistic RACE is a three-hour challenge led by people with lived experience of disability.

In teams, participants take on fun, thought-provoking tasks while navigating access barriers using mobility aids like wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, blindfolds and noise-cancelling headphones.

This experience sparks meaningful conversations and builds understanding around customer service, inclusive hiring, community engagement and better design of workplaces, services and spaces.

How it works

We tailor each Realistic RACE to suit your team, location and goals.

  • RACE Planning – We visit your site and local area to design challenges that are relevant and meaningful to your team.
  • RACE Day – Led by trained facilitators with lived experience, we’ll kick off with a briefing before teams take on the challenges, followed by a group debrief to reflect on the experience.
  • Post-RACE Follow-Up – We’ll check in with you after the session to help you keep the momentum going.

We can also help you create an Accessibility Action Plan to turn learning into lasting change.

What if your team could…

  • Strengthen communication and teamwork in a unique, hands-on way
  • Build confidence in creating more accessible, inclusive spaces
  • Improve customer service and community connection
  • Spot barriers and take practical steps to remove them
  • Support inclusive hiring and workplace culture
  • Make real progress on your accessibility and inclusion goals

The Realistic RACE gives your team tools they can use every day – and makes a genuine impact on how you work together and engage with your community.
