To commemorate World Polio Day, we will be holding a special event with a range of informative guest speakers who will discuss topics such as rehabilitation, wellbeing, dieting, vaccination and more.
Dr William DeMayo, a rehabilitation specialist with a special interest in post-polio, will be presenting and answering questions via video link from Abu Dhabi.
Additional speakers include Dietitian Amy Nevin from the Spinal Injuries Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital, Social Worker Lili van Zyl from Mater Misericordiae and Polio Eradication Advocate Susanne Rea OAM.
Our new Chief Executive Officer Mark Townend AM will officially open the proceedings for the day.
Our 2019 World Polio Day event will be held on Friday, 25 October from 10am to 2pm at our Woolloongabba office.
For people unable to attend in person, a video link will also be available to watch the event at home.
World Polio Day officially takes place on 24 October, to commemorate the birth of medical researcher Jonas Salk.
Jonas led the first team to develop a successful polio vaccine, which came into use from 1955.
