Sporting Wheelies is thrilled to team up with Queensland Cricket to bring you a brand-new Wheelchair Cricket program, launching in Brisbane and the Gold Coast!

Whether you’re a die-hard cricket fan or a curious first-timer, this is your chance to hit the field and give it a go. Sporting Wheelies has all the equipment and expert coaching sorted, so all you need to bring is your enthusiasm. It’s cricket like you’ve never experienced it before – fun, inclusive, and open to everyone!

Free ‘come and try’ sessions

Want to check it out first? Come along for a free come and try session in Week 1 of the program! Meet Sporting Wheelies’ experienced coach, test out the sports wheelchairs, and dive into the game in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Brisbane:

Thursday, 9 January, 5:30–7:00 PM

Sporting Wheelies, 2 Kilroe Street, Milton

Gold Coast:

Wednesday, 15 January, 5:30–7:00 PM

Coomera Indoor Sports Centre, 35 Beattie Rd, Coomera

Who is the program for?

This program is for everyone! Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned athlete, there’s a spot for you. Sports wheelchairs will be provided, so you can jump right in.

You can use your NDIS funding to join, or the team can arrange direct invoicing – whatever works best for you.

How it works

The program runs for eight weeks and wraps up with an epic cricket match – Brisbane vs. Gold Coast! Stay tuned for match details.

FAQs

You can read Frequently Asked Questions below and contact 07 3253 3333 or email sport@sportingwheelies.org.au if you have any further questions.

How much does the program cost?

The full cost for the program is $190 which includes all your training sessions, a team uniform, athlete entry to the Brisbane vs Gold Coast One Day Match and coaching.

Can I use my NDIS funding?

Yes! Just let the team know when you register, and they will invoice you at the end of the program to claim through your NDIS funding. For athletes who do not have NDIS funding, you can pay at the time of registration.

Sporting Wheelies is also a registered FairPlay provider, which means you can apply for a voucher and save $200 on your program fees.

FairPlay vouchers are a Queensland Government initiative aimed at helping families with the cost of junior sport, for children aged 5 to 17 years.

How do I sign up?

You can use our online form to sign up for the first free session by clicking here. If you are ready to continue with the program, the team will send you another form to complete to finalise your payment details.

What if I want to sign up after the program starts?

Simply get in touch with the team on 07 3253 3333 or email sport@sportingwheelies.org.au and the team will check what’s available.

Will it be competitive?

Not at all! You can play just for fun or if you are interested in pursuing the next level, chat with Sporting Wheelies’ experienced coach. There are opportunities to compete in Wheelchair Cricket on a national level.

What other sports do you offer?

Sporting Wheelies also offers:

  • Adaptive Aquatics – Learn to swim or further develop your skills and confidence in the pool.
  • Wheelchair Fundamentals – An introductory program to the world of wheelchair sports, where you’ll learn more about wheelchair sports, master manual wheelchair handling and essential ball skills, and grow your fitness.
  • Wheelchair Basketball – An exciting version of basketball that was initially started for its rehabilitation benefits, with all the fun that comes with being part of a team sport.
  • Boccia – Often referred to as the world’s most inclusive sport, Boccia is a bowling game that requires concentration, strategy and accuracy.
  • Para Powerlifting – Including bench press, squat and dead lift for athletes with vision impairment, and bench press for athletes with other physical disabilities

Sporting Wheelies also has a range of group fitness classes at their accessible gym, led by experienced Exercise Physiologists.

Are volunteering opportunities available?

If you’re keen to be involved but not sure about participating just yet, you can also contribute to sports programs in a number of ways, as an official or scorekeeper, event support or just come along and watch the action! Click here to register.
