We will be hosting several member lunches across Queensland and Western Australia for Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Week (3 to 9 September) and Disability Action Week (9 to 15 September).
At some of these events, our staff will provide updates on the organisations’s new Advocacy Charter, Position Statements and strategic direction.
Rockhampton – 4 September
Location: Rockhampton Spinal Life office, 49 Archer Street
We will provide an update on the organisation’s new strategic direction, Advocacy Charter and Position Statements, as well as providing an update on advocacy efforts for the late effects of polio.
Dr Ali Lakhani from Griffith University will also be conducting a survey with members to assist in his research on health services accessibility.
Cairns – 5 September
Location: Half Moon Bay Golf Club, 66 Wattle Street
We will provide an update on our new Advocacy Charter and Position Statements. The event will also include a demonstration of the ParaGolfer, an all-terrain wheelchair that can be used for golfing.
Mackay – 7 September
Location: Rice Buffet, 22 Gregory Street.
We will provide an update on our new Advocacy Charter and Position Statements.
Perth – 7 September
Location: Zamia Cafe, Kings Park
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet our new Member Liaison Officer, Debbie Nobre and join us for a lunch to connect with other members of the Perth community. Everyone is welcome to attend, not just Spinal Life members.
Gold Coast – 10 September
Location: Treetops Tavern, 7 Executive Drive
For members of the Gold Coast Post Polio network. A representative from My Health Record will be attending to provide more information about the national initiative.
Maryborough – 12 September
Location: Maryborough RSL, 163 Lennox Street

Townsville – 12 September

Sunshine Coast/Maroochydore – 14 September
Location: QCWA Hall and Maroochydore RSL, Memorial Avenue
We will provide an update on our new strategic direction, Advocacy Charter and Position Statements, as well as providing an update on advocacy efforts for the late effects of polio.
Deakin University researchers will also attend to conduct a focus group on overcoming barriers in mainstream services for people with a disability.
