It is with much sadness that we advise that one of our Board Directors, Ben Lawson, passed away suddenly on Sunday 24 June due to illness.
Ben began his role with Spinal Life’s Board in November 2016 after being a member and client of Spinal Life since the late 1990s, and had high-level quadriplegia as the result of muscular dystrophy.
As part of the Board, Ben shared his invaluable professional skills to benefit the organisation, including more than 10 years experience working for the Queensland Government in policy development and implementation, and having achieved a Bachelor of Science (Hons) and a Doctorate of Philosophy.
Ben also shared his personal lived experience to lead Spinal Life, including how he faced the challenges of navigating education, work, parenthood and the health system with a physical disability.
We will be sharing a special tribute to Ben in the upcoming issue of The Advocate magazine.
Our thoughts are with Ben’s family at this difficult time.
