Practice Physiotherapist, Brisbane
Anthony is Spinal Life’s Practice Physiotherapist at the Healthy Living Centre in Brisbane. He brings over ten years of experience to the role and has worked in both clinical and hospital environments in Canada, Haiti, and Australia.
Passionate about supporting his clients with rehabilitation and recovery, Anthony applies a holistic approach and considers the intersection between physical function, psychological health and social wellbeing when developing treatment plans with his clients. With a strong understanding of spinal cord injury rehabilitation, complex neurological rehabilitation, nerve damage neuropathy and brain injury rehabilitation, Anthony has helped hundreds of clients regain functional mobility, manage pain, and improve their quality of life.
Outside of work, you’ll find Anthony cycling around Brisbane, reading books, and enjoying food, arts and culture.
Exercise Physiologist, Brisbane
Ernest is Spinal Life’s Exercise Physiologist at the Healthy Living Centre in Brisbane. Graduating from Griffith University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Exercise Science he then went on to complete a Graduate Diploma of Exercise Science to further explore his passion for helping people with chronic conditions and diseases as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist.
Ernest has worked with various neurological conditions in all different settings, from clinical rehabilitation to Para-Olympic and national level athletes to completing acute hospital in-services. At Spinal Life Ernest specialises in the tailored delivery of exercises to help prevent and manage a range of chronic health conditions, neurological disorders/injuries and any other health-related issues. With a strong understanding of chronic neurological pathologies such as spinal cord injury, brain injury, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis as well a variety of other conditions, Ernest has helped hundreds of clients achieve their goals and improve their independence and quality of life. Ernest loves a challenge and is happy to help anyone to achieve their exercise and rehabilitation goals.
When not at work you will find him enjoying an active lifestyle from playing soccer and working out, to relaxing on the beach.
Community Nurse Specialist, Brisbane
Deb knows the medical complexities that come with sustaining a spinal cord injury after working for six years as a nurse in the Spinal Injuries Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital
In 2020, she brought her skills and experience to Spinal Life as a Community Nurse Specialist to assist clients in the greater Brisbane region with bladder and bowel management, continence assessments, wound assessments and dressings, NDIS assistance and more.
Deb describes herself as a ‘tragic’ but keen golfer and says she’s happiest when she’s spending time with her family in Cairns or whipping up something in the kitchen.
Practice Manager - Occupation Therapy, Brisbane
Rebecca has more than 20 years of experience working as an OT across 2 continents. With her Bachelor of Occupational Therapy from the University of Queensland, she started working in Community Health north of Brisbane before moving to London.
There she spent most of her working time with a wheelchair and seating service. With a newly discovered interest in seating, and its potential effects, Rebecca returned to Australia. She worked for a time with the Department of Housing before joining Spinal Life in 2006.
Rebecca aims to assist clients in living a full and comfortable life and finding solutions to the every day challenges that may arise.
Ruby is one of Spinal Life’s Exercise Physiologists located at the Healthy Living Centre in Brisbane. Ruby graduated from the University of Queensland in 2021 with a bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiology (Honours). Ruby works one on one with clients and in a group setting to help them achieve their own goals and and improve functional abilities to assist in living life independently.
Ruby had multiple placements throughout university working with clients with musculoskeletal injuries and found a passion of working with clientele with neurological conditions. Ruby understands how beneficial exercise is to help improve an individual’s ability to completely activities of daily life.
Outside of work, you’ll find Ruby enjoying quality time with her family and friends – four legged ones included. Ruby is taking up AFL for the first time in 2022.
Lisa has been working as an Occupational Therapist in Neuro Rehab since 2005. Having worked with Cerebral Palsy Alliance, Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and Royal Rehab, she brings a wealth of experience to the role and is passionate about supporting her clients to participate in life fully. Lisa enjoys applying a holistic approach to her work, often thinking outside of the box to find the correct ‘fit’ for her clients while still following evidence-based practice to get the best results. Having recently moved from Sydney, Lisa enjoys spending time on the beach and teaching Yoga and Meditation to people who live with a disability or chronic health condition.
Tina Newton-Modlmayr is part of our Healthy Living Centre team as Graduate Physiotherapist, supporting guests across their rehabilitation journey including hydrotherapy and gym programs.
Since completing her physiotherapy degree at the Auckland University of Technology in 2018, Tina has worked in private practice and in aged care before initially joining our Cairns team as a volunteer.
Tina also has a background as a nurse and Pilates instructor, using this wealth of knowledge to help people reach their individual goals.
Community Nurse, Brisbane
Penny started working as an enrolled nurse at the Princess Alexandria Hospital in 2010. Penny started in the SIU in 2012 and started studying to become a registered nurse while working full time. Penny has previously work with Spinal Life nurses Deb and Elle and decided to join the Spinal Life team so she can continue to see patients she worked with throughout her time in SIU and continue to see how they progress.
Outside of work, penny enjoys cooking, walks. Penny is an animal lover with two cats and is hoping to get a puppy in 2022.
Julie has worked as a Physiotherapist in regions around the world, including England, North America, Tonga and Sydney with her current work at the Healthy Living Centre in Cairns.
She provides physiotherapy services to people with physical disabilities, helping her clients with things like pain management, strengthening, stretching, wheelchair skills training, neurological rehabilitation, hydrotherapy and gym programs.
Julie said after travelling the world, she hoped Cairns is now her ‘forever home’ and she’s looking forward to working with the Allied Health team at the Healthy Living Centre to make a difference in people’s lives.
Exercise Physiologist, Cairns
Elise is Spinal Life Australia’s first ever Exercise Physiologist and is excited to help people reach their personal fitness and rehabilitation goals at the Healthy Living Centre.
She graduated as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist from James Cook University in 2015 and has worked in gym, hydrotherapy and clinical environments assisting clients with a wide range of conditions and disabilities.
Working with the Active Gym, Active Hydro Pool and other Allied Health team members at the Centre, Elise is ready to create tailored exercise and fitness plans for her clients suited to their individual goals and capabilities.
Occupational Therapist, Cairns
Georgia has held previous occupational therapy roles in Melbourne, England and Cairns and is excited to be one of the first team members at the Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre in Cairns.
Her role involves working with clients on sourcing and applying for rehabilitation, equipment and assistive technology, including modifications for their home, vehicle or work.
Georgia said she was looking forward to joining the team at the Healthy Living Centre and use her skills and knowledge to support people with physical disabilities.

Community Nurse Specialist – Queensland
After completing her nursing degree at Griffith University, Elle worked as a registered nurse at the Spinal Injuries Unit at Princess Alexandra Hospital before bringing her experience and knowledge to Spinal Life Australia.
The former rural NSW resident provides specialist in-home nursing services to improve the wellbeing and quality of life for clients with spinal cord damage, including bladder and bowel management, pressure sore and wound care, diabetes education, medication reviews, general health assessments and more.
While she’s not helping others, Elle enjoys settling down with a good book.
Occupational Therapist, Cairns
Lucy brings with her over a decade of experience in clinical areas, including paediatric care, Indigenous family health and disability services.
She will be assisting clients in Far North Queensland reach their goals and improve their quality of life at the Spinal Life Healthy Living Centre.
When she isn’t working, Lucy loves keeping active and especially enjoys the outdoors, playing sports and going camping with her family.
Occupational Therapist, Brisbane
Patricia graduated in 2002 with a Masters in Occupational Therapy Studies from the University of Queensland. With over 18 years of experience in providing Occupational Therapy Services, she brings extensive skills and knowledge to the role. Patricia is passionate about delivering holistic, practical, timely, and effective solutions that support and enhance her clients’ independence and participation in meaningful activities. With a thorough understanding of current state and federal funding schemes, Patricia supports her clients each step of the way through their rehabilitation journey. As a native Spanish speaker, she believes that variety is the spice of life and loves that no two days are the same as a community-based Occupational Therapist.
Occupational Therapist, Brisbane
With Bachelor’s Degrees in Health Science and Occupational Therapy, and having completed her placement with Spinal Life as part of our Cairns unit, Yvette has hit the ground running since she joined the Allied Health Team and been delivering excellent results for her clients.
This includes a client with complete C4 quadriplegia who is back fishing after Yvette’s assistance helped fit a boat hoist and custom fishing chair with chin control and electrical reel.
Examples like this show the determination for results that saw Yvette represent Australia in water polo. She’s not all machine though and does like getting her Betty Crocker on and doing some baking.
Clinical Nurse (RN), Brisbane
Gemma is a clinical nurse (RN) with over eight years of experience in the industry. Having worked in hospitals across Spain and Australia, Gemma is skilled in providing catheter changes, wound care, bowel management, health monitoring and more.
Originally from Spain, Gemma loves sharing her culture with her clients and supporting them to achieve positive health outcomes. Outside of work, you’ll find Gemma playing tennis, spending time with her partner and enjoying nature.

Erin has been an Occupational Therapist since 2017 and is passionate about making real and tangible differences in people’s lives. Erin supports and advocates for her clients to get the best outcomes from their sessions. Specialising in spinal cord injury support, Erin is highly skilled in providing functional assessments, recommending equipment and assistive technologies and helping make daily tasks easier and more accessible. Outside of work, you’ll find Erin spending time with family, friends and her kitten Ollie.

Occupational Therapist – Bundaberg
Joanne has turned her Bachelor of Applied Science (Occupational Therapy) into a career as an OT spanning more than 30 years, primarily working with services that impact people undergoing injury rehabilitation and living with disability.
Since she joined Spinal Life Australia in 2011, Joanne has assisting clients by reviewing and prescribing equipment, and home and workplace mods. She works with NDIS applications, Aged Care, Job Access and insurers to help clients achieve their goals in independence, mobility and community participation.
She recently worked with Job Access to obtain a trailer, 4×4 wheelchair and other equipment for a client’s role as camp leader, as well as assisting another client convert their dog-washing trailer to be wheelchair accessible and operated.
