Anyone is welcome to become a member of Spinal Life Australia. Under our Constitution, members may be invited to the Annual General Meeting to have a say in our future direction. They receive a copy of The Advocate, can join our member networks and are entitled to discounts on equipment hire. To become a member you must meet the criteria for one of four member classes:
- Ordinary You must be at least 18 years of age, and you must have a primary disability that is due to an acquired spinal cord injury, either by accident or disease (which includes a person who has had polio); or not less than 18 years of age as at the date of the application and a parent, spouse, sibling or child of an individual whose primary disability is or was the consequence of an acquired spinal cord injury, either by accident or disease.
- Associate Any person is eligible; however, associate members do not have the right to vote.
- Junior You must be less than 18 years of age at the date of application, and have a primary disability that is due to an acquired spinal cord injury, either by accident or disease (which includes a person who has had polio). Junior members can attend and be heard at any general meeting but are not eligible to vote. Consent of a parent or legal guardian is required when applying for junior membership.
- Life You must be an ordinary member (or you must be eligible to apply for ordinary membership and you must identify your type of disability).
