Support networks
Life after a spinal cord injury is filled with many challenges to overcome and barriers to break down. Rising to the challenges and fighting through the barriers become easier when you have the support of people who understand and have experienced the same things.
Member Networks and Post Polio Support Groups are local and regional support groups that allow members to share experiences in dealing with issues of having a spinal cord injury or the late effects of polio. Such forums also provide members with the opportunity to share information, and raise and address issues that impact on their daily lives. These issues are diverse, and range from the identification of access problems in the built environment to accessing services and issues around health or equipment.
These groups help to develop effective linking and networking between members and the Association. Such positive support empowers our members to live life to the full and actively participate in their communities.
The Spinal Injuries Association is also the national body for people with Transverse Myelitis in Australia and holds data that can link people who have the condition with others in their region to provide peer support and the benefits of networking with others who experience the same condition.
