Public information sessions about new disability parking scheme

by Laura on May 29, 2009

On 26 May 2009 the Parliamentary Secretary for Disability and Children’s Services, the Hon Bill Shorten MP, launched a discussion paper and national public consultations for the Australian Disability Parking Scheme.

This follows an announcement by the Government in the 2009-10 Federal Budget to provide $3 million to develop the scheme across Australia by the end of 2010.

Over the years many permit holders have told government that some people use disability parking permits when they are not eligible, making it difficult to access parking when it is needed.

The Australian Disability Parking Scheme will provide consistent national eligibility criteria, parking concessions and a new national permit to replace more than 100 different permit types currently issued across Australia.

How can I take part?

During June 2009 the Government is holding public information sessions about the scheme in each capital city, plus Alice Springs, Cairns and Townsville.
