Rotarians support residents with spinal cord injuries

North Queenslanders with spinal cord injuries will benefit from the generous support of the Townsville Rotary Club.

President Stephen Motti said that tomorrow (25 JAN) the Club would present the Spinal Injuries Association with a cheque for $4,180 – funds raised from their Melbourne Cup function last year.

“We have had a long tradition of representation by Club members on the Association’s local Supporters Committee and we’re pleased to assist the organisation, which supports local people who have quadriplegia and paraplegia,” Stephen said.

“The Rotary Club of Townsville has a long association with its City. This year we are again conducting our annual art union, which provides opportunities for community organisations to assist in selling tickets and raising funds. Last year, more than $65,000 was distributed to local charity groups and organisations through Art Union Ticket Sales.

“We also continue raising funds by providing food at the Townsville Show; assisting our regional friends by collecting chairs and desks no longer required from local schools and sending them to Papua New Guinea; and we are also active in the local Bowel Scan program, a national health initiative.”

Spinal Injuries Association North Queensland Manager Cathy Lengyel said the continued support of the Club was appreciated by the entire organisation.

“For our Association, which supports local people, to partner with a local service club that has such a proud history is something we take great pride in,” Cathy said.

“We’re very grateful to the ongoing work of the Townsville Rotary Club.”
