Federal Member to meet local advocates
Townsville’s Member Network group is looking forward to welcoming Federal Member for Herbert Ewen Jones to its monthly meeting at the Spinal Injuries Association tomorrow.
Member Network Facilitator Scott Stidston said the group was made up of local people who had spinal cord injuries and who were very active in ensuring the region was accessible and equitable for all people.
“Since 1960 our Association has supported and empowered North Queenslanders with spinal cord injuries to live as independently as possible,” Scott said.
“Tomorrow is a great opportunity to share with Mr Jones the variety of services our organisation offers to members – from peer support and personal support, to healthcare and lifestyle advice – as well as the many activities that our Member Network group regularly undertakes.”
Scott said a particular focus for the Association at the moment was the Productivity Commission’s investigation into a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
“The Commission released a draft report on 28 February, which was adamant that change needs to happen in the disability sector, so we look forward to discussing the issue with Mr Jones and gaining his view on the Scheme.”
Issued 28 March.
