It’s going to be a cracker of a night
As a full moon rises over Cleveland Bay on the crest of a high tide, Townsville residents will enjoy an evening of live music, dancing and food for the inaugural Cracker of a Night this Sunday, 17 August. A fundraising event for the Spinal Injuries Association, the fun-filled evening has been organised by Townsville Rotary Club member Fraser Montgomery.
Fraser has been instrumental in bringing the region’s 10 Rotary Clubs together to work on the combined community event. He said Cracker of a Night would have a magnificent backdrop as guests gathered on the Promenade at Rowes Bay from 4pm until 10pm.
“This will be a big, fun event for the whole family, with entertainment by the RSL Island Pipe Band and the well known two-piece band Caz Bar,” Fraser said.
“There’s plenty of room for everyone, with the playground on the Promenade perfect to keep the kids entertained.”
Fraser said this was the first event the combined Townsville Rotary Clubs had worked together on, and he hoped it would be the start of a long-term fundraising event.
Three fantastic lucky door prizes are on offer at the event – a four-day Barrier Reef cruise for two from Townsville to Cairns onboard the Coral Princess, courtesy of Tony Briggs of Coral Princess Cruises. Skytrans has donated return airfares and Acacia Limousines will pick up the winners before and after the voyage. Macair has donated airfares for two to either Longreach to see the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, or Winton, including two night’s accommodation and car hire for two days. The third prize is a two-night stay for two people at the International Resort on Magnetic Island, with ferry passes included.
Everyone is welcome to Cracker of a Night. Tickets are $40 adults, $10 for children aged 12 – 18. Children under 12 are free. Wine, beer and softdrinks will be available at reasonable prices on the night.
Issued 14 August 2008.
